the story
In Wolof, teranga means there is always room at the table.
Teranga is Senegal's word for hospitality, the belief that a guest is a gift and there is always room for one more at the bowl. Our artisans in Senegal coil elephant grass, wrap it in strips of recycled plastic, and stitch it row by row into pieces made for gathering.
coiled by hand
Grass is bundled, wrapped, and stitched in one continuous spiral. You can follow every row.
color in every row
Color is worked in as the coil grows, so the pattern lands a little differently on every piece.
made for the table
Flat, sturdy, and easy to wipe clean, made for weeknight dinners and holiday spreads alike.
