the story

In Senegal, a vase is woven one coil at a time.

In Senegal, weavers wrap elephant grass in strips of recycled plastic and stitch it into a tight coil, building each vase row by row from the base up. The grass gives it structure, the plastic gives it color, and no two come out quite the same.

Recycled plastic adds color and strength, so the pattern is woven in, never painted on.
